Barcelona open to selling three strikers ahead of the 2022/23 season

Barcelona’s January additions have been a huge success, with Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang and Ferran Torres in particular immediately establishing themselves as crucial cogs in Xavi’s attacking unit.

According to Diario Sport, the early success of these two players has caused Barcelona to rethink the future of their other offensive players heading into the new season.

Memphis Depay, Martin Braithwaite, and Luuk de Jong are three players whose futures at Camp Nou are in doubt. Despite being useful when called upon, none of them have managed to cement a spot in the starting eleven under Xavi.

Braithwaite, for instance, had had a strong start to the season before suffering an injury. With the World Cup approaching, he could leave in the summer in the hopes of securing regular playing time.

Luuk de Jong, on the other hand, is off to a great start in 2022. However, the Barcelona hierarchy does not hold him in high regard, and he could fall lower down the pecking order in the season ahead.

This could push Barcelona to decline the option to sign him on a permanent deal in the summer, implying that the Dutchman would return to his former club.

Memphis Depay is another attacker who is expected to depart Camp Nou this summer. The former Olympique Lyon striker is an odd situation at Barcelona because he is by far the most valuable forward of the three.

Memphis may have fallen behind Aubameyang in the pecking order, but his ten goals in 20 league games this season make him one of Barça’s most productive players.

It could make it simpler for Barcelona to find a buyer for Depay, with Tottenham Hotspur among the teams interested. After a brief stay in Catalonia, the former Manchester United youngster could be interested in reviving his career elsewhere.
